Polair HVAC strives to educate our customers. Here’s a guide to the main components of a Rooftop HVAC unit, along with a brief explanation of what each part does.
Why This Matters:
Knowing what each part does helps with troubleshooting, planning maintenance, and understanding recommendations for repairs or upgrades.
1. Compressor
Pumps refrigerant through the system, enabling cooling.
2. Condenser Coils
Release heat from the refrigerant to the outside air. (Cooling)
3. Flue Gas Exhaust Fan
Removes combustion gases safely from the unit. (Heating)
4. Filters
Trap dust and debris, keeping indoor air clean and protecting the system.
5. Controls and Electrical Components
Manage and coordinate all heating, cooling, and safety operations.
6. Heat Exchanger
Transfers heat from burners to the air (for heating) without mixing gases. (Heating)
7. Unit Base Rail
Provides structural support for the entire unit.
8. Evaporator Coil
Absorbs heat from the indoor air, cooling it before it’s distributed.
9. Evaporator Fan (Blower Motor)
Circulates cooled or heated air through the building.
10. Condenser Propeller Fan
Pulls outdoor air through the condenser coils to release heat.
(Cooling)
